On October 2o my family and I went down to the Recruiting Centre here in Saint John for my swearing in to the Canadian Forces; my carrier in the Air Force began. Ten days later I said goodbye to my family and boarded a plane for the first time in my life. Less than two hours later I landed in Montréal at Trudeau International Airport and was soon boarding a bus headed for the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS) is Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. It was the beginning of six weeks of exhaustion and, quite frankly, hell.
Basic Training has been the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I've gotten through it so far, but it's taken everything I have to do so, and I've still got seven weeks left to go. At the moment I'm home on my Christmas leave, though I'll be leaving again to-morrow to go back. It's so hard leaving the family. I miss them so much while I'm gone. My family are all I have, and I don't completely fit in at CFLRS, I'm just so different from most of my platoon mates, so it's really hard being away from them.
